SEGO Initiative: Connecting People, Nature, and Community Through Action

Some of the most meaningful change begins at a local level. It starts with people who care deeply about the place they live and choose to take action, not just once, but consistently over time.

For 2026, we are excited to welcome SEGO Initiative as one of our Community Impact Partner NPOs.

SEGO Initiative is a Japan-based nonprofit rooted in Fujisawa, built from a simple but powerful starting point: bringing people together to care for their environment. What began as a local beach cleanup effort has grown into a broader movement focused on environmental awareness, community connection, and hands-on engagement.

At the core of SEGO’s work is the idea that real impact happens when people are actively involved. Their programs bring individuals, families, students, and corporate teams into direct connection with nature and their communities. Through beach cleanups, environmental education, and interactive experiences, they create opportunities for people to not only learn, but take part.

Their work spans volunteering, education, and environmental connection. Volunteers contribute to conservation efforts, while educational initiatives use tools like art, workshops, and citizen science to deepen understanding of environmental challenges. Experiences via the organization's public education programming also give participants a new way to connect with the ocean and better understand the importance of protecting it

What makes SEGO Initiative stand out is how they bring these elements together. Their work connects environmental action with community building, creativity, and learning. It is not just about protecting nature, but about helping people understand their role within it.

Over time, their impact has continued to grow. Volunteers come together through their programs to support cleaner coastlines, stronger communities, and a greater sense of environmental responsibility.

But beyond the measurable impact, there is something more. It is in the shared experience of working side by side during a cleanup. It is in the conversations sparked through education and creativity. It is in the connection people feel to each other and to the environment around them.

This sense of connection is what Yamathon is all about.

Tokyo Yamathon brings people together through a shared experience, creating space for community, awareness, and collective action. Supporting organizations like SEGO Initiative helps extend that impact beyond the event itself.

Our partnership is grounded in shared values of community, sustainability, and the belief that change starts with people coming together. As we look ahead to 2026, we are proud to support SEGO Initiative and the work they continue to grow.

We invite you to learn more about their story, their work, and the impact they are making:
