Tokyo Yamathon Entry : General Entry vs Sponsor Entry

When registering for the Tokyo Yamathon, you may see two different entry categories:
General Entry and Sponsor Entry. Both categories provide entry into the same Tokyo Yamathon. The difference is simply who is eligible to use each registration route and how the available places are allocated.

What Is General Entry?
General Entry is open to the public.
Anyone who meets the Tokyo Yamathon participation requirements may register a team through the General Entry registration page while places remain available.
You do not need to work for a sponsoring company or receive an invitation from a sponsor to use General Entry.
What Is Sponsor Entry?
Sponsor Entry is reserved exclusively for official Tokyo Yamathon sponsors.
As part of their sponsorship package, sponsoring organizations receive a defined number of participant places. Sponsors then allocate these places to employees, partners or other approved participants.
A participant should only use Sponsor Entry after receiving confirmation or instructions from their sponsoring organization.
Sponsor Entry is not a second public registration option. It is a separate pool of places reserved for sponsors that help make the Tokyo Yamathon possible.
Why Are There Separate Entry Allocations?
The Tokyo Yamathon must manage the number of people arriving at each finish location safely.
The event itself offers three course options:
Full Yamathon
Half Yamathon
Half-a-Half Yamathon
The Half Yamathon finishes at JR Mejiro Station, while the Half-a-Half Yamathon finishes at the FootNik venue at JR Osaki Station.
These finish areas can only comfortably and safely manage a certain number of teams arriving within a limited period. To prevent overcrowding, the number of entries for these courses must be capped.
Places for these courses are therefore divided between:
General Entry participants
Sponsor Entry participants
This means General Entry for a trek may reach capacity even when Sponsor Entry still appears to be available. Those remaining Sponsor Entry places are reserved for participants who have been allocated a place by an official sponsor.
Sponsor places are not additional people placed on top of the safety limit. They are included within the planned event capacity.
Is the Full Yamathon Capped?
The Full Yamathon does not have a separate trek-specific cap in the same way as the Half and Half-a-Half treks.
However, this does not mean Full Yamathon entry is unlimited.
The Tokyo Yamathon 2026 is recruiting a maximum of 1,100 teams across the entire event. This overall limit is based partly on the number of people the starting location can safely accommodate.
The event must also ensure that Full Yamathon participants have enough time to complete the trek and return within the required 12-hour event period.
Therefore, Full Yamathon registration remains subject to:
The overall 1100 teams ( about 3900 participants ) event limit
Available entry places
The ability to complete the trek within the required time
The official registration deadline
Important: General Entry and Sponsor Entry Are the Same Event Experience
Sponsor Entry does not provide a different challenge, a shorter trek or a separate Tokyo Yamathon experience.
Once registered, General Entry and Sponsor Entry participants take part in the same event and follow the same participation rules, safety guidelines and trekking requirements.
The entry categories simply help the Tokyo Yamathon manage public registration, sponsor allocations and finish-location capacity.
How to Enter the Tokyo Yamathon
Members of the public should select General Entry.
Participants receiving a place through an official sponsoring organization should follow their sponsor’s instructions and select Sponsor Entry.
